Karl Haigler

Karl Haigler, one of the authors of, "The Gap-Year Advantage" has served as director of the Adult Literacy Initiative for the U.S. Department of Education and as special advisor to the Governor of Mississippi on literacy issues. He currently lives in Advance, North Carolina.

Haigler is a nationally-recognized expert in workplace and adult literacy, having worked at the federal level on the U.S. Secretary of Education’s senior staff as Director of the Adult Literacy Initiative and Director of Adult Education. In the area of education, Haigler has taught at the university, community college, and secondary school levels and was principal of a high school that, under his leadership, was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a national school of excellence.
